Welcome Back!

Lower School Highlights

In our Lower School, teachers have been hard at work planning new selections of sensory activities, Science-driven lessons and projects, Recycling-based educational team sports, and even our very own Olympic Games! We’ve got some great things planned for the coming months- stay tuned for posts and updates.

Upper School Highlights

We saw some pretty wonderful things in 2023, with students making new friends, creating incredible projects, dedicating themselves to academic goals, and learning new skills in our Resource program. In the new year, we’re looking forward to seeing children master new goals, explore new units in Project-Based Learning, create Natural Science Projects to deepen their connectedness to living things, and prepare themselves for promotion to the next grade. We’ve got a Living Art Museum planned, an International Festival, an Earth Day Celebration, and more. Hope to see you all here!

Curriculum Corner: MAP TESTING

This month, students will complete their second round of MAP testing. These assessments measure your child’s academic progress throughout the year, and help us pinpoint their current instructional level. Additionally, the assessment tracks year-over-year growth in the areas of Math and Reading. Ensuring that your child gets a good night sleep and eats a healthy breakfast is the best way to prepare your child for the test. Please see your child’s teacher for specific testing dates.

Getting Back to a Healthy School Routine

Winter Break has come and gone. We hope you spent the time enjoying the season and making memories with your families. We know, though, that the routine to school can bring challenges, so here are a few tips and tricks to help you get back in the swing:

1.Stick to a Schedule:

Establish a daily schedule that includes specific times for waking up, meals, homework, extracurricular activities, and bedtime.

2. Healthy Breakfast:

Ensure that a nutritious breakfast is part of your routine. A balanced breakfast provides energy for the day and helps with concentration.

3. Organize Supplies:

Lay out any necessary school supplies, backpacks, and uniforms/clothing the night before to minimize morning stress.

4. Homework Time:

Designate a specific time for homework and study. Maintain a quiet and organized space to encourage your child’s focus and effort.

5. Stay Hydrated:

Encourage the habit of drinking water throughout the day. Proper hydration is essential for overall health and concentration.

6. Balanced Meals:

Pack or plan balanced lunches and snacks. Include a variety of food groups to support energy levels and concentration.

7. Physical Activity:

Incorporate physical activity into your weekly routine. After school sports, a family walk, or some outdoor playtime-exercise helps with focus and stress relief.
