12/22: Winter Break Begins (School Closed for Elementary, ELC on-site, optional care for 3s and 4s)

2023: YEAR IN REVIEW

For our final Weekly Owl of 2023, we’re taking this opportunity to look back at all the fun and amazing experiences we’ve had since the first week of school. We couldn’t be more proud of the work and accomplishments by both our students and families this year, and we can’t wait to see you all back here in 2024.

Curriculum Corner: MAP Testing

Map Growth Testing will be administered for students in Kindergarten-Grade 5 when students return from Winter Break. In order for your child to perform their best, please ensure they get a good night’s sleep the night before the test, and a good breakfast to set your child up for success. For specific test dates, please contact your child’s teacher.

COLLAGE AFTERSCHOOL ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY:

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP**

For many children, managing the social world day in and day out eventually presents challenges. Some children may struggle with social flexibility, or sudden frustration, or wanting to engage but just struggling to figure out how. Mandala Family Wellness is proud to offer a group designed to improve children’s confidence, fluidity, and excitement about making and maintaining friendships. Guided by Mandala therapists, children will learn highly effective and applicable social skills to improve their navigation of relationships and bolster their self-esteem.

** Social skills group is now open to 3, 4, and 5-year-olds with our “Little Leaders” program.

Tips for a Healthy Winter Break

Regular Sleep: Without the daily attendance of school, it can be easy to allow children’s bedtime to slip. Ensure they’re getting good, regular sleep in order to keep their health and mood stable.

Limit Screen Time: Access to technology is an understandably regular part of time away from school, but do your best to keep it to a minimum, and encourage regular breaks from screens.

Dental Hygiene: The winter holidays often come with the consumption of sweet and delicious treats. Ensure children are consistently brushing their teeth and keeping their mouths clean.

Handwashing: This time of year, the spread of viruses and bacteria is all too common. Help your children practice frequent, effective handwashing in order to minimize transmission wherever possible.

Exercise: Keep your kids moving! Regular physical activity- dressed warmly outdoors when possible- will help keep your children happy and healthy.

Brain Workouts: Encourage children to spend some time each day reading, working on puzzles, playing thinking games, or working on mental challenges. This way, they’ll come back to school ready to go in January.
