At our Elementary School in Ponte Vedra, every student makes meaningful, measurable progress through the Florida B.E.S.T. Standards curriculum. Inquiry-driven learning connected to real-world topics supports, challenges, and inspires learners to grow with confidence.
Building strong literacy skills
Students in our Elementary School develop literacy skills through comprehensive Reading and Writing Workshops. In Kindergarten through 1st grade, there is a strong focus on foundational skills which include phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, handwriting, comprehension, and written expression. As they progress into higher grades, they engage in more critical thinking, learning in depth comprehension skills through authentic text.
Mini-lessons, small-group instruction, independent practice, teacher conferences, and peer sharing support students at every stage. Programs including Being a Reader, Making Meaning, IRLA, UFLI, SIPPS and IXL help teachers monitor individual progress and guide each student toward greater confidence, independence, and readiness for middle school.
Enhancing logical thinking
At our lower school in Florida, learners build strong mathematical foundations through Conceptual Math, supported by Eureka Math. They progress from exploring concepts with hands-on materials to using visual models, mathematical symbols, and increasingly advanced strategies.
As their skills develop, students apply number sense, operations, measurement, data, geometry, patterns, and problem-solving to real-world challenges, STEM projects, outdoor fieldwork, and cross-curricular investigations. They learn to approach problems in different ways, explain their reasoning clearly, and become confident, independent mathematical thinkers.
Exploring through experimentation
Students develop curiosity, observation skills, and scientific thinking through Science Highlights, Project Learning Tree, and hands-on Science and STEAM learning. In the earlier grades, they ask questions, explore natural systems, identify patterns, and connect classroom learning with the world around them. Outdoor learning two to three times per week strengthens environmental awareness, collaboration, scientific vocabulary, and confidence as young investigators.
As they progress, they apply these foundations to deeper investigations, environmental problem-solving, coding, technology integration, and cross-curricular projects. They learn to pose increasingly complex questions, analyze evidence, test possible solutions, and communicate their findings clearly, developing stronger scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Students show their progress through written work, projects, classroom discussions, portfolios, IXL reports, MAP testing, progress checks, and standards-based report cards three times a year. These help teachers and parents understand how each child is growing as a reader, writer, problem-solver, collaborator, and independent learner.
Families are kept informed through Parent-Teacher Conferences, weekly updates in The Weekly Owl, and direct communication with teachers by email or phone.
Achievement is celebrated through performances, exhibitions, project presentations, and programs such as Sunshine State Young Readers.
Students strengthen life competencies by applying their skills with greater independence and purpose. Project-based learning, research, group projects, and presentations help students think critically, solve problems, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively. Through art, STEAM, music, gardening, and horticulture, students are encouraged to be creative, innovative, and environmentally responsible.
Learner-led projects and differentiated learning pathways support leadership, accountability, self-direction, and confidence as students prepare for the next stage of learning.
Students grow into confident multilingual communicators through bi-weekly Spanish instruction that builds both language skills and cultural awareness. Taught by specialist teachers and thoughtfully embedded into the curriculum, Spanish learning develops naturally through regular classroom experiences, observation, participation, and ongoing formative assessment.
Beyond the school day, students can further expand their global perspective through World Language enrichment offerings, including Spanish, Japanese, and American Sign Language, as well as whole-school celebrations such as International Month.
Students expand their learning beyond the classroom through meaningful real-world experiences that spark curiosity, purpose, and connection. Field trips to local ecological and community sites, science and STEAM festivals, and service projects help children explore their interests while deepening their understanding of the world around them.
Through ISP’s International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS), they can also pursue their passions, from science and art to chess and social activism, while meeting peers from around the world and building the skills, confidence, and global perspective to thrive.
Our experienced faculty and administrators carefully monitor student progress to ensure every child is supported with high-quality instruction aligned to strong educational standards. With additional guidance available from a certified Learning Specialist, students receive tiered support needed to build confidence and achieve their full potential.
Recess
Daily recess supports students’ physical, social, and emotional development. In the earlier grades, play helps children transition from play-based Kindergarten into more structured learning while continuing to explore through movement and imagination. As they progress, activities such as playing soccer, building forts in the woods, caring for rabbits, and spending time with friends encourage greater independence and connection.These daily experiences provide time to reset and recharge while strengthening friendships, communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and resilience.
Homework
Homework at our private Elementary School in Ponte Vedra Beach is assigned thoughtfully and on an as-needed basis to support each student’s individual progress. Students may also be encouraged to read daily and practice math facts when beneficial. If additional support is needed at home or in the classroom, teachers will communicate closely with parents and provide the appropriate resources to help each child succeed.
