Early Learning

Infants (0 – 12 months)

For infants, learning begins through the senses, touch, movement, sound, light, and the reassuring presence of trusted caregivers.

In our daycare in Nocatee, FL, infants are invited to explore safely at their own pace - reaching, grasping, mouthing natural materials, observing reflections and movement, and discovering the world from soft, floor-based spaces designed for comfort and wonder.

Teachers closely observe each child, respond to individual cues, and gently narrate experiences to support early language, secure attachment, physical development, and social-emotional trust. These first discoveries lay the foundation for confident communication, meaningful relationships, and joyful learning as children grow.

Young Toddlers (12 – 30 months)

For young toddlers, learning unfolds through movement, repetition, and hands-on discovery. As children pour, stack, sort, explore textures, and experiment with natural loose parts, they begin to understand cause and effect, develop early math awareness, and build language through naming, simple phrases, and meaningful interaction.

At our daycare in St. Johns, teachers thoughtfully prepare open-ended experiences, model language, and extend each child’s curiosity with gentle questions such as, “What happens if…?”.

With open floor space, water exploration, and daily access to the outdoors through The Burrow program, young toddlers are supported as active learners gaining independence, communication skills, and a growing understanding of the world around them.

Older Toddlers (ages 2.5 – 3)

For older toddlers, learning becomes more social, expressive, and connected. As children begin to talk more, ask questions, and play alongside and with others, they develop important skills in cooperation, conversation, and early problem-solving.

Teachers gently facilitate interactions, support sharing, and encourage children to think more deeply through simple open-ended questions. Through dramatic play, building with natural materials, and nature-based exploration – such as discovering how water turns sand into mud – older toddlers strengthen their language, curiosity, and confidence as they begin to make sense of the world with others.

Preschool (ages 3 – 4)

In our preschool in Northeast Florida, children’s natural curiosity becomes the starting point for deeper discovery. As they ask questions, investigate short projects, and express ideas through drawing, building, and storytelling, they begin to develop early literacy, mathematical thinking, and scientific inquiry.

Teachers introduce thoughtful provocations, extend children’s thinking, and begin documenting learning to make growth visible.

Through art atelier experiences, inquiry centers, and outdoor learning, preschoolers build confidence, creativity, and the foundational skills that prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey.

PreK & VPK (ages 4 – 5)

In PreK and VPK, children are ready to take learning further through longer investigations, richer conversations, and more intentional skill-building woven into meaningful play. Early reading, writing, and math come to life through phonics exposure, writing attempts, counting, early operations, and hands-on problem-solving, while collaborative projects help children develop independence, confidence, and social awareness.

Teachers balance inquiry with intentional instruction, offering more direct support when needed and clearly documenting each child’s progress. With literacy-rich spaces, math manipulatives, project areas, and outdoor learning opportunities, children build the academic, social, and emotional foundations for a confident transition to Kindergarten.
