TimberNook teaches Animal Care

August 25, 2017

Collage students in four Primary School classes participated this week in the first of many TimberNook experiences. They brought their stuffed animals to the class and spent the morning outdoors where they created a vet clinic with patient tables, cages and beds.

Director of Health & Wellness Emily Vasquez showed them how to use real medical supplies, such as Band-Aids, gauze, elastic bandages, syringes and stethoscopes. They even had the opportunity to bathe their patients in a foam bath!

TimberNook experiences are selected and planned based on their ability to inspire children to think and play in new and creative ways.

Lifelong benefits of the TimberNook experience include improving gross motor, attention, visual, auditory processing, fine motor and social skills. Children are encouraged to think independently and openly. Emily uses Collage’s environment, resources and activities to allow time and space for kids to create, build and use their imagination. Getting plenty of movement helps regulate students’ emotions.

Collage Day School is an independent day school located in Palm Valley, Ponte Vedra Beach. We educate children from 3 months old through fifth grade in three learning communities – early childhood development (3 months up to three years old), primary school (3 years old up to 6 years old) and elementary (5 years old up to 12 years old). We offer a very active and creative outdoor nature program that includes TimberNook to promote health and wellness, in addition to an academically challenging curriculum, as part of our whole-child approach to learning. Our small class sizes and low faculty-to-student ratios enable us to offer individualized learning that promotes success for each student.
